How does azathioprine work with plaquenil for lupus

If in about 6 to 8 weeks you aren't seeing the slightest change, or don't feel it is enough, let your doc know, and he can adjust. Plaquenil is used to inhibit disease progression - most of us are started on it immediately and need to remain on it long-term. Generally a rheumy will then choose one of these three; Imuran, Cellcept, or MTX to inhibit the over-active autoimmune system that is Lupus. Others here have gotten great results from either Imuran or MTX. I see that in June you were asking about MTX (Methotrexate). I found that following my Dr's instinct/experience/training gave me good results.

Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with SLE in March 13' and just recently with fibro in August. I've been taking 400mg of plaquenil daily along with heart meds for a heart condition I've had for 11 years now. My rheumy wants me to start taking Imuran starting on the 1st of the new year. Does anyone else take Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is commonly used to help keep mild lupus-related problems, such as skin and joint disease, under control. This drug is also effective at preventing lupus flares. May 07, 2019 Imuran azathioprine is a medication originally used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs. It is commonly used to treat the more serious features of lupus by suppressing the immune system.

So my Dr moved on to Cellcept, which was a miracle medication for me. There are no clear guidelines that recommend starting with one of these over the others -- and it's hit-and-miss which one will work best for any individual patient. The Dr knows exactly how your individual manifestation of the disease is presenting, what has already been tried, how you reacted to it... She choose Imuran over Methotrexate because I enjoy red wine on the weekends.

Taking Imuran now-doctor adding Plaquenil. Is this semi-normal. I stop that in 3 weeks and then will be on only Plaquenil and imuran - then blood work and check up, 2 weeks after that to see how I'm doing. I don't know a lot of Lupus yet and just wanted to make sure I wasn't a guinea pig because other than the pluersy still hanging around. Used for pain, rashes, and lung inflammation. Most commonly used is hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil. This drug, however, can cause headaches, weight loss, and stomach pain. Other medications include B-lymphocyte specific inhibitors belimumab and immunosuppressants methotrexate, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide. Disease Outlook I have lupus and aps and due to a flare that's lasted 10 months the rheumatologist started me on azathioprine. I started on 50mg twice daily with little effect so it was increased to 3 times a day. Then my liver enzymes shot up so had to stop the azathioprine was gutted as it had just started to make me feel better!
