Apr 20, 2011 Furthermore, the advent of novice sensitive diagnostic modalities has led to a revision of the recommended guidelines for patients using Plaquenil see “2011 Plaquenil Screening Tests”. 7 A dilated fundus examination is critical in detecting and documenting established macular or retinal disease; however, due to low sensitivity, it should not be used as a screening test alone. Aug 01, 2009 Took Plaquenil for 13 years for lupus. Saw eye doctor every 6 months as required. He never caught vision loss until it was too late and then tried to say it was my fault for missing one appointment. Lupus doctor wanted to blame eye doctor even though the dose he gave me over the years was way too high for my size. Both my rheumatologist and opthamologist recommended exams every 6mo for the first year I was on plaquenil. Now I just go yearly to have my eyes checked. Also, my rhuemy said any time he makes an adjustment to my plaquenil that I'll need an eye exam within 6mo just to make sure nothing has changed.

Hydroxychloroquine plaquenil withdrawl? - LUPUS UK I can't believe you were told to stop taking plaquenil after only 6 months since it can take up to one YEAR to achieve full benefits! I don't know much about any sort of withdrawal but if I were you I'd start taking it again. I'd also have your thyroid checked. I'm hypothyroid and take levo along with he plaquenil.
