    Plaquenil rash wont go away

It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which transmit the parasites that cause the infection, usually in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.

Re Plaquenil - Can It Work Quickly? Maybe you should discuss this with your doctor. Sounds like he took away a med that was doing a good job, unless there is something else that is preventing you from taking it of course. Mar 11, 2014 How long until the malar rash goes away? Meds started 3 weeks; I've been on prednisone for 5 months and then on plaquenil hydroxychloroquine and azathioprine for another 1month. Why my lupus rash is not going away after 6 months of rx? Hands broke out from generic plaquenil hydroxychloroquine. Since the drug is cumulative in its effects you may be having an allergic reaction. My Father had the same reaction took him 3 weeks to develop it and he had to stop. It took 2 weeks for the rash to go away, but it was the Plaquenil. Now he's on Methotrexate and doing well.

For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

  3. Sep 01, 2017 Maybe you have an allergy due to counter acting should Google that to find out for sure as I know there is a list of things you can't take when using plaquinil. I am not sure if it has sulphur/sulfa in it. I am terribly allergi to sulfa, had a rash just like that and spent 3 days in a bathtub of cold water just to get relief as alegy med did not even touch it.

    • Common and Rare Side Effects for Plaquenil Oral.

That's a real common side effect of Lupus is unexplained rashes. If you've ever had an allergic reaction to a drug then this is the type of reaction you'd have if you were allergic to the Plaquenil; and they'd stay until the Plaquenil was out of your system. If they're coming and going more than likely it isn't the Plaquenil. I've been on Plaquenil for 6 weeks. I developed a red, raised, welt rash that looked like zebra stripes after being in the sun for 10 minutes. It went away within 30 minutes but then my joints all flared up the next few days. Check with your doctor! Most side effects will go away when your body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if you have these side effects. A lower dose may stop them. Do not lower the dose on your own. Plaquenil stays in your body for about 3 months. If you must stop it, it will take a while for the side effects to go away.
